May 19th,Friday, 2017 On our way to Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam

May 19th,Friday, 2017 On our way to Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam
Started the day out side Winslow Az at Homolovi State Park.  Before leaving the park we explored one of the ruins.  These ruins are what are left of an ancient Hopi settlement.
Horizon looking toward Winslow from the Homolovi site.
 Elaine walking towards the site.
 A wall at the site.
 A selfy at the site.
We kept seeing trail markings in stone so Elaine decided to add her own.

 General landscape at Homolovi.
Another site.
After leaving Homolovi we headed into Winslow to seek out that famous street corner from the Eagles song.

Turns out we found they have a very official street corner!

Took this for our friends who like Hampton Inns.
We stopped at a coffee shop across from the famous corner and this is how it looked backed in the 70's.
On our way out of Winslow we could see Humpreys Peak on the horizon which is just north of Flagstaff.

On our way to Flagstaff our tire pressure monitor system started telling me we had a problem with the right front tire.  So we promptly found an exit and I got out my tools and fixed a loose valve stem. Turns out before we left Worcester I had a mechanic fix out passenger side exhaust manifold.  To get to the manifold he had to take off the right front tire.  He mentioned to me he had trouble getting the hub cap back on.  I now realize when he had trouble he loosened the tire valve stem. At Homolovi we drove over many frost heaves and jounced around a lot thus probably causing the marginal tightness in the valve stem to loosen.
Elaine took several photos to document the repair effort.  We parked behind a truck that also was experience mechanical problems. Had a nice chat with a driver from West Virginia.

Finally nade it toi Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam around 5:30 that afternoon.
This is a picture of a dent we think was made by a pronghorn deer that ran into the front passenger side of our fender. I never saw it and Elaine closed her eyes before impact.

One of the nice things about the drive is the ever changing geography. So included below are many road side shots on our way to Lake Meade from Kingman AZ.

Finally our campsite at Lake Mead RV park.
