May 9th, We found warmth! Springfield Il....of all places!

May 9th: We found warmth! Springfield Il....of all places!
We decided to add a stop at Lincoln's home in Springfield Il and we found temperatures in the low 80's.  This was a welcome change to our cold wet eastern bones.

We camped at a really nice spot in Sangchris Lake State Park about 20 miles southeast of Springfield.  It was a great spot lakeside.  The catfish feeding along the shores a few feet from us kept us entertained.
On our way to Sangchris Lake State Park we had to go through a road that was covered with water.  I had Elaine looking down at the running board making sure the water did not get up to that level as that was the same level as teh muffler.
Wednesday May 10th we saw Lincoln's home. Lincoln's house was a modest two story colonial similar to our old home in Westboro.
In downtown Springfield we walked by Lincoln's presidential library, which was a surprise to us. We later found that it is run by a private foundation. We were happy just visiting his home which is run by the park service.
We liked our lakeside campsite so much we stayed for two nights.
