May 17th, Wednesday, Taos to Santa Fe via Los Alamos

May 17th, Wednesday,  Taos to Santa Fe via Los Alamos
We were in Taos many years ago when we lived in Colorado Springs.  Traditional downtown, but clearly subject to urban sprawl.  I always had a curiosity about Los Alamos so we planned a visit on our way to Santa Fe.  Los Alamos is amazing as it is a city on top of an isolated mesa.  In fact in recent years the national labs had to be moved to the adjacent south mesa when it outgrew Los Alamos mesa. We visited the Bradbury Science museum which described the science that was and is currently being conducted at the Los Alamos National Labs.  We also toured the Los Alamos historical museum which talked more about the settlement and growth of the town of Los Alamos.  All in all a good visit but I felt I would not like to live in a company town surrounded by other engineers and scientists.
One of the interesting things about traveling in the west is the geography.  I decided to include many pictures of landscapes that impressed us.

The national lab at Los Alamos is trying to redirect its focus to include energy technology.  This includes research on nano-technology and algea harvesting.
This caught my attention where they use sound waves to concentrate algae.

 More info on nano technology.
Another replica of the Fat Man bomb dropped on Nagasacki.
 Posing with Robert Oppenheimer.
Some great views coming off the mesa from Los Alamos.
