May 15th, Monday, 2017 Kansas to New Mexico

May 15th, Monday,  2017 Kansas to New Mexico
Woke up Monday morning not quite rested as I wanted.  The Kansas wind buffeted us all night.  I actually was doing mental calculations in my head as to at what mph the wind would roll the rv over.  That helped to put me back to sleep.  We now understand why we have been seeing hundreds of windmills along the way.  The wind in Kansas is incredible and a huge source of wind energy.
Today we would travel from Meade KS to Clayton State Park in Eastern New Mexico.  We mostly traveled down route 64.  Not the greatest of roads. But I was able to adjust my lane position slightly to find a smooth path.

Clayton State Park was built when they constructed a dam and a Clayton Lake.  Adjacent to the dam they carved out a spillway by removing about 10 feet of soil. In 1982 they got a lot of rain and the spillway was used to handle the overflow for the first time.  The water removed another layer of soil and exposed impressions of ancient dinosaur foot prints. These are advertised as the best foot impressions of dinosaurs in the country. All in all a very nice small state park.  The night was very quiet and the stars shone brightly before the moon rose.(according to Elaine.  I was fast asleep)
Oklahoma is just as flat as Kansas. Nice perspective shot down Route 64.

Interesting radio antenna in western Oklahoma.
Our campsite at Clayton State Park in New Mexico.  Best night ever, you could hear a pin drop.
View of the dam with the spillway to the left.
 Other end of the lake.
300 million year old foot prints of ancient dinosaurs.
Luke, 300 million has 8 zeros after the 3.
 This was the best footprint.
Elaine finally gets to color in Oklahoma on our travel map.
